Litchfield High School honored senior student athletes during the annual Activities Awards Night May 22, recognizing six seniors with special awards. FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Camryn Iverson was chosen from a group of five LHS three-sport athletes as Athlete of the Year for her ability to not only push herself to achieve success, but to raise the level of her teammates’ play.

With the school year winding down, it’s time to start thinking about things to do during the months ahead. One of the best is the summer reading program offered at Meeker County libraries.
Even though threatening weather forced cancellation of the parade and one outdoor ceremony, it did not stop Litchfield residents from paying their respects to soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Litchfield veterans organizations led a Memorial Day service early Monday at Calvary Cemetery, then went indoors at Litchfield Opera House for the traditional larger community service.
LeRoy J. Reinert, 81, of Hutchinson passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Jeannie Lynn Larson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated quilter, passed away peacefully at the age of 73, surrounded by family and friends on April 15, 2024. Born June 14, 1950, Jeannie was the cherished wife of Larry Larson with whom she shared over 20 years of love and laughter.
Evelyn L. Hellwig, 95, of Silver Lake, formerly of rural Darwin, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Cedar Crest Estate Senior Living in Silver Lake.
Litchfield sophomore Lincoln Dille will compete in the State Class A Tennis Tournament next week. Dille cruised to the Section 2A singles championship with four consecutive straight-sets victories.
Litchfield’s postseason ended quickly. The 11th-seeded Dragons took an early lead but could not hold on as sixth-seeded Norwood Young America scored seven runs over the third and fourth innings to win 7-3 May 23 on its home field.
Litchfield pulled a mild upset in picking up its second win and extending its season in the opening round of the Section 3AA softball tournament last week. Unfortunately, their success did not continue, as the Dragons lost their next two games and were eliminated from postseason play.
