Hutchinson woman sentenced to prison for embezzling more than $2 million from employer

A Hutchinson woman has been sentenced to 41 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution in full for embezzling more than $2 million from her employer. According to court documents, Jennifer Lee Rath, 53, worked as the financial controller at a heavy civil construction company in Hutchinson.

Saluting the red, white and blue

It’s become a Fourth of July tradition for folks to post on social media asking if there is a fireworks show in the area. Others will chime in and respond in a variety of ways ranging from “No, there isn’t one” to “Don’t get us started.” The truth is, the Fourth of July was once a big deal in Litchfield and Hutchinson.

Floating works of art

“It’s just like that scene in the Wizard of Oz!” Victoria Anderson said as she gazed into the sky at the hot air balloon floating above Harmony River in Hutchinson. The former Harmony River employee was among many who watched as the balloon recently made an early- May appearance in a field nearby the senior living facility on the southeast side of town.

God’s kingdom and our Fathers

Many of us heard the gospel from Mark 4:26-34 on Sunday. Growing up I remember having to hoe out or pull mustard in the bean fields. It was an invasive weed that would choke out the crop. Jesus used mustard plants as an example of God’s kingdom. Why? Even from a tiny seed, a large plant can grow and take over. Jesus must have been pointing to the amazing growth of God’s kingdom.

Marching away with hardware

They marched through a busy week and walked off with a lot of hardware. Litchfield High School marching band claimed grand champion honors in two parades, along with a few other awards, as it appeared in four cities over three days last week.
