Throughout Meeker County, there has been a long and varied history of women’s clubs. Most of the clubs started in an era when few women worked outside of the home and provided the women with social and community outlets. Here’s a look at three such clubs.

A fast way to cause a lot of destruction in a short period of time is to tie the tails of two foxes together, wedge a lit torch between their tails, and set them free to run through dry fields in the middle of summer. 20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF AUG. 12, 2004 Corporate discussions are underway between the two companies that own medical clinics in Litchfield about a potential merger. The possibility that the Litchfield Allina Medical Clinic might be purchased by Affiliated Community Medical Center based in Willmar was brought up in a discussion Monday at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital Board meeting. Board member Keith Carlson of Dassel said people are talking about it and want to know what’s happening. Should the merger occur, “Allina would be divesting itself of us (the Litchfield Allina clinic),” Peterson said, with ownership of that clinic being assumed by ACMC.

My husband and I have been drawn in, and we’ve been enjoying watching men’s and women’s gymnastics, swimming, diving and trap shooting, as well as some things that are unfamiliar to us, like handball. It’s inspiring to hear the athletes’ stories, especially all that Minnesota gymnast Suni Lee has overcome since the last summer Olympics.
