Laura May Ackerman, 92 of Litchfield passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation was held from 9:30 – 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment was held at Ripley Cemetery.
Laura May Ackerman, the daughter of Engelhard and Florence (Groskreutz) Wendroth, was born on April 26, 1932, in Litchfield. She graduated from Eden Valley High School and was united in marriage to Peter Anthony Ackerman in Eden Valley in 1952. Over the years Laura was a telephone operator, worked at Fingerhut, owned a turkey farm and was a bookkeeper for Jennie-O Company. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1945. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing bingo, bowling, dancing, sitting in the sun and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Laura is survived by her children Richard (Laurie) Ackerman of Glendale, Ariz., Diane Helsinger (Ackerman) of Hutchinson, Elaine (Ackerman) and Mike Graupmann of Plato, Peter (Ruth) Ackerman of Litchfield, Joan (Steve) (Ackerman) Christensen of Hutchinson, Mike (Lori) Ackerman of St. Joseph, Charlie (Vicky) Ackerman of Litchfield, Patsy Ackerman of Watkins, Robert (Jane) Ackerman of Roger, Carol (Ackerman) and Mark Olsen of Minnesota and Susan (Ackerman) and Tim Dwyer of St. Michael; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a brother Lawrence “Buddy” (Leola) Wendroth of Paynesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents Engelhard and Florence; husband Pete Ackerman; grandsons Karl Helsinger and Brad and Mariah Ackerman.
