Lloyd H. Allen, 84, of Hutchinson passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Methodist Hospital’s Comfort Care Unit in St. Louis Park surrounded by his daughters. Memorial Service was held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson with interment in Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe. He was the son of Howard and Florence (Johnson) Allen. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth at First Congregational Church in Glencoe. After high school Lloyd continued his education at Minnesota State University – Mankato, obtaining Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration and Economics. While in college, he earned his private pilot’s license and put in numerous hours flying. Following college, he married and began his business career at Jostens in Owatonna. While there, Lloyd organized a flying club and continued his education further by working on his Master’s Degree in Management & Marketing. In 1971, Lloyd opened Allen Office Products and he became his own businessman. Later, he also owned Hutchinson Cold Storage. He treasured all of his employees, suppliers and customers for over 30 years. The Gull Lake area near Brainerd became a second home to Lloyd. There he enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting with his buddies and golf and water skiing with his daughters. He also enjoyed woodworking and small projects around the house. Lloyd cherished the many friendships he had in Hutchinson and on Gull Lake. Lloyd was a loving father and businessman. Although business driven, his priority was always being involved and/or attending the many activities of his three daughters. Those blessed and honored to call him dad, were Lori, Pam and Anissa. “Grandpa,” was a title he wore proudly. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Nicole and Jaden Parsons and Lindsey Pieters. He followed Nicole closely with her extra-curricular activities and academic achievements. He enjoyed attending Jaden’s baseball and hockey games when he was young. Once Grandpa learned to use his smartphone, they texted or talked often about golf and the NFL. Lindsey was always a source of great energy, full of artistic surprises and many colorful conversations. A special highlight was a week-long Alaskan cruise with his three daughters, which Lloyd planned for over a year. They enjoyed the sights on both land and sea, including the calving glaciers, breaching whales, and a day LONG train excursion. It was a trip of a lifetime, which we continue to reminisce about since 2013. Lloyd’s daughters wish to extend their appreciation to the helpful neighbors on West Shore Drive (Bob and Tim). They would also like to acknowledge the multiple medical facilities, physicians and rehabilitation therapists for providing such wonderful care for our dad since 2017. We will be forever grateful to neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Link at Mayo Clinic in Rochester as well as Dad’s special team of home care aides (Jenny D, Jenny E, Melissa, Emmy, and Kath) for giving us the gift of time these past seven years. While we are deeply saddened saying goodbye to Dad, we are comforted knowing he is in a better place, finally pain free and at peace. This special man had a kind and caring heart. It carried through life for over 84 years. Thank you, Dad, for giving us the greatest gift – your love. Blessed be his memory; we love you BIG TIME! Though saddened that our dad is no longer on earth with us, we are comforted knowing he was received into heaven into the loving arms of his parents, Howard and Florence Allen; his sister, Anita Wagner; and his grandparents, Silas and Florence Allen. The family of Lloyd Allen would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and kindness in this time of sorrow.
