Jeanie grew up in the wide, tree-lined Evergreen Park neighborhood of Litchfield, creating joyful memories with her brother Bill and her loving extended family. Her passion for music began early, studying piano with the Benedictine nuns and playing organ for the choir in the 1940s and 1950s.
After graduating from Litchfield High School in 1952, she attended St. Cloud Teachers College and taught 4th grade and music in Sartell. In 1957, she married Frank Doran and became a devoted mother to sons Michael and John, filling their lives with laughter and music.
Jeanie worked at Cardiac Pacemakers (now Boston Scientific). She served as a music therapy assistant at Courage Center and an activity coordinator at Maplewood Care Center, sharing her love of music through various instruments at work and in the Twin Cities.
After retiring in 1999, she returned to Litchfield, performing regularly at local nursing homes and community events, bringing joy through her music. Always a passionate advocate for civil rights, environmental issues, and women’s rights, Jeanie was also a cornerstone of the music community. She played at church and community events, founded the contemporary music group Life Song at St. Odilia Catholic Church, and taught folk music classes.
Jeanie is survived by sons Michael Doran (Beth Diedrich) of Roseville and John Doran (Debra) of White Bear Lake, as well as grandchildren Sean (Vanessa), Sharron Jean (Galen Bell), Shannon Rose Krissey (Kyle), Mike Cloutier, and Stephany Moffett. Jeanie’s warmth and spirit will be deeply missed. A celebration of her life will honor her incredible journey filled with love and music.
Jeanie shared this passage from Golden Years to bring us peace:
“Thank You, God, for all the treasures in my life. For the tender love of family and friendship, rich and true. For sweet memories and the preciousness of living, I give thanks unto You. Amen.”
