GRACE M. KAPING

 Grace M. Kaping, 93, of Litchfield died on Monday February 10, 2025, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday February 17, 2025, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cedar Mills Township. The service will be livestreamed at www.johnsonhagglund.com.
 Grace M. Kaping, the daughter of Edwin and Mildred (Berlin) Swanson, was born on February 3, 1932, in Litchfield. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Darrel Kaping at First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos on January 20, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, they bought their farm in Cedar Mills Township. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran church of Cosmos. Grace was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their dairy, crop and livestock farm. She was employed at Jennie-O and later at FingerHut and kept the books on the farm. She cooked many meals and baked many loaves of bread while raising her six children. She liked to sew, garden and read. She especially liked raising golden retrievers. She loved babies and babysat often for all of her grandchildren. She liked to learn new things and thought it was important that girls learn gun safety, so she accompanied multiple granddaughters to a gun safety training course. She had good sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.
 Grace is survived by her children Darrel Jr. (Diane), Gary (Amanda), Reed (Nancy), Ross (Joyce), Lee (Martina) and Sheila (Neil) Pearson; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; brother John (Jane) Swanson; sisters Miriam Rahn and Margaret Davis; sister-in-law Vicki Swanson; and Fred Schneider who was like a son.
 She was preceded in death by her husband Darrel Sr.; siblings Edwin, Donald, Raymond and Nels; and daughter-in-law Nancy.
