I have not written an article for the newspaper in a while. I am distracted from my usual musings. The chaos in the White House has me on edge. I try to find a comfortable balance between being well-informed, taking appropriate actions in response to the daily news, and living my own life with joy and gratitude.

20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF MARCH 24, 2025 During the past five years, the Litchfield Rescue Squad responded to an average of 200 calls per year. For more than 30 years, the Rescue Squad has been responding to emergencies in a blue and gold 1973 Chevrolet van, one of three vehicles used by the Rescue Squad. Chief Mike Thompson says its long overdue for a replacement. Typically, funding for transportation improvements would come from the city, Thompson said, “but taxpayers are already strapped as it is.” So instead, Thompson said the squad will pursue donations and other fundraising opportunities in hopes of covering the cost of rebuilding two of the squad’s three vehicles at an estimated cost of $80,000 to $100,000.

Seed tests lead to Extension recommendations

Seed-buying season is in full swing for Minnesota gardeners, who are now beginning to start seeds indoors under lights or gathering seed packets to be planted outside this spring. The trouble is that there are thousands of varieties of veggie and flower seeds for sale now — with some seeds offered at more than $5 a packet — and it’s hard to know which ones will thrive in Minnesota.

4-H CLUB REPORTS

The Danielson Hustlers March meeting was held at the Willmar YMCA. During the meeting we talked about our community pride project to clean up trails and to enroll for your fair projects. Then we went swimming. After that we had pizza and cupcakes.
