Doris L. Welker, 93, of Litchfield died on Wednesday July 30, 2025, at Lakeside Generations Health Care Center in Dassel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.
Doris Lois Welker, the daughter of Ernest and Ella (Kuehn) Minks, was born on April 27, 1932, in Hector. She grew up in the Cosmos area where she attended Peace Lutheran Church and received her education in Cosmos School District until moving to the Litchfield area before her freshman year. Doris graduated from Litchfield High School. She was united in marriage to Carl Welker in Kakabeka Falls, Canada. They made their home in Litchfield where she worked for Meeker County Community Homes. Along with babysitting for many families, she later worked for Lutheran Social Services and then New and Old Heartland Community Action. Doris dedicated 19 years to the Salvation Army Christmas Dinner. She retired at the age of 81. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in the sewing club. Doris was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and also a member of the Legion. Doris enjoyed trips to Breezy Point, sewing, embroidering, needle work, reading, cooking, baking, and raising fish and parrots. She especially enjoyed family time and her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her children Richard (and Mary) Welker of Litchfield, Di Ann (and Sid) Lund of Litchfield, Robert (and Tammy) Welker of Yankton, S.D., Donald (and Sharon) Welker of Litchfield, David Welker (and Cindy) of Litchfield and son-in-law Dave Schwich of Green Isle; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; siblings Ervin, Marlin (Rose), and Gloria Koehn; and sister-in-law Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Ella; stepfather Wally; husband Carl; daughter Kim Schwich; great-grandson Alex; brothers Ervin, Orlin and Lawrence; brother-in-law Steve; and sisters-in-law Ginger and Laura.
