Florence Rezek, the daughter of Helen (Crnkovich) and Mike Niksich, was born on March 5, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa. The youngest of four, she grew up in South Omaha. At the young age of 15, Florence graduated from high school and furthered her education at Boyle’s Business College. On May 30, 1940, Florence married Joe Rezek and they were blessed with five children, Carol, Bob, Ginny, Chuck, and Tony. In addition to being a wife and mom, Florence worked outside the home at a variety of jobs, retiring from Union Pacific in Nebraska at the age of 65.
Deeply committed to the Catholic Church, Florence’s faith was very important to her. She faithfully said the rosary every day and was a member of the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. She was also a member of Croation Catholic Union, various women’s groups, and she was the first woman president of the Fraternal Insurance Association in Nebraska.
Florence enjoyed a good cup of coffee, Nebraska football games, shopping, and reading mystery books. In her younger years, she learned to rise above adversity and kept one foot in front of the other, always moving forward. Over ten decades of living, Florence saw many changes but what stayed the same is the love she had for her family. Her warm, loving, and nurturing presence, along with her sense of humor, will be profoundly missed.
