Alvin DeWall, 77, of Litchfield died Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Litchfield. A Celebration of Life is planned for Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the American Legion, 222 N Sibley in Litchfield from 1 – 3 p.m. Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m.
He was born in St. James on February 7, 1947. The family moved to Nevis where he graduated high school in 1965. He graduated from Dunwoody College studying electronics. He married Mary Urdahl in 1969 and moved to Litchfield in 1970 where he worked for Falknor’s Appliance as a TV repairman and later became an electrical lineman for the City of Litchfield. In 1983 the family moved to Buffalo where Al continued working as an electrical lineman. He retired and moved to Arizona in 2012. Al and Mary just recently moved back to Litchfield.
Al enjoyed all card games, especially poker. One great joy was teaching and playing cards with the grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and was a black belt in karate. While enjoying retirement living in Arizona, he learned to play pickleball and often played five days a week.
Al served in the Army from 1966-68 and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a former commander at the American Legion Post 104 in Litchfield and was a bartender there for several years.
Al is survived by his wife Mary of 55 years; sons Shawn of Arizona and Robert of Minnesota, and daughter Heather of Montana; grandchildren Calvin, Elise, Weston, and Johnny DeWall of Minnesota and Carter and Tanner Fust of Montana; brothers James (Karen) of Minnesota and Daryl (Carla) of Arizona; sisters and brothers-in-law Irene Samec, Hazel and Gaylen Kehoe, Evelyn and Mike Levchak, Wally Eddy, all of Minnesota; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Josephine (Gappa) DeWall and a brother Thomas.
