ROBERT A. ROSENOW

Robert A. Rosenow, 92, of Litchfield died on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Ecumen Assisted Living in Litchfield. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday March 14, 2025, at Ostmark Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday at Johnson Hagglund Funeral and Cremation Service. Interment will be held at Ostmark Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. The service will be livestreamed on www.johnsonhagglund.com. Robert Albert Rosenow, the son of Harry and Marietta (Umberhocker) Rosenow, was born in Greenleaf Township on July 20, 1932. He was confirmed and baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. The family later bought a farm near Manannah where they milked cows, farmed the land, and Bob grew to manhood. He graduated from Litchfield High School and enlisted in the National Guard Army in 1951. He was sent to Camp Rucker in Alabama for training and was later deployed to Korea to fight in the war where he advanced to the rank of Sergeant. In August 1952 Bob was injured during front line action when a hand grenade exploded near his legs. He was sent to an Army hospital in Osaka, Japan, where he spent several months recovering. After he received an honorable discharge, he returned to his family farm to help his father and also worked in construction. He was united in marriage to Betty Melstrom on August 2, 1958, in Ellsworth, Wis. Bob and Betty bought a farm near Forest City where he raised hogs and worked the land. Bob also drove school bus and was a custodian for the National Guard Armory in Litchfield where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1990. Bob and Betty raised their five children on this farm near Forest City. After Betty’s death in 1979, Bob married Virgie Schultz, who passed away in 1983. He later married Diane Grussendorf, who passed away in 2024. He was a member of Ostmark Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, going to the casino, and visiting friends and relatives. Robert is survived by his children Dan (Linda) Rosenow of Annandale; Tammy (Don) Renne of Duluth; Dana (Chuck) Pautsch of Arlington; and Darla Rosenow of Litchfield; grandchildren Holly Rosenow, Adam Renne, Beau Renne, Cody Renne, Robby Pautsch, Logan Pautsch, Devin Rosenow, Brianna Cardinal, and Tanner Greenring; 11 greatgrandchildren; sisters Ione Christiansen and Beatie Donovan; and a sister-in-law Betty Rosenow. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Marietta; wives Betty, Virgie and Diane; daughter and son-in-law Heidi (Rick) Alama; granddaughter Kellie Renne; brother Glenn and sister LaVerne Fischer. RODNEY R. SOMMERFELD

Rodney R. Sommerfeld, 77, of Litchfield died on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation was held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Johnson Hagglund Funeral and Cremation in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. The service will be livestreamed at www.johnsonhagglund.com. Rodney Raymond Sommerfeld, the son of Ben and Erna (Piepenberg) Sommerfeld was born on February 8, 1948, in Litchfield. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1966 and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Rodney was united in marriage to Sandra Holmberg in 1981. They were married for 18 years and remained friends until Sandra passed away in January 2024. He grew up on the family farm in Manannah and continued farming until he began working at Custom Products and later Palm Attachments and Bobcat in Litchfield. Rodney was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Rodney was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, enjoyed driving motorcycles, tinkering in the garage and spending time with his family. One of his favorite childhood memories was spending time at his grandma and grandpa Piepenburg’s farm. Rodney was known by the kids at church for handing out fruit snacks and other treats and the grandkids never left his apartment without a handful of candy. Rodney will be remembered by many for his slow blue truck covered in stickers. He is survived by his children Sara Shoutz of Litchfield, Jennifer (John) Condon of Eagle Bend, and Wesley (Teri) Sommerfeld of Big Lake; grandchildren Zoe Shoutz, Cryus Shoutz, Lucas Condon, Emma Condon, Aiden Matthews, Harlo Lind and Nienna Palmer; mother-in-law Darlene Holmberg; brothers-inlaw and sister-in-law Brian (Joan) Holmberg of Nisswa, Kent (Janet) Holmberg of McGregor, MN, Chad (Mary) Holmberg of Grove City, Curt Holmberg of Eden Valley, and Jocelyn Holmberg of Buffalo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Erna Sommerfeld; former wife Sandra Lindquist; son-in-law Todd Shoutz and brother-in-law Loren Holmberg, and other loved ones that he looked forward to being reunited with in heaven.
