Two years ago one of our sons and family came to live with us for a year while they were between houses. There were some struggles, but it was a great blessing for Julie and me to spend so much time with those four grandkids. But our daughter-in-law would not allow her kids to say, “I hate that,” whatever it was. Instead,they are to say,“I don’t prefer that.”

Court case for juvenile suspect in Liberty gun story burglary continued

LIBERTY — No new details regarding possible charges were released Monday, Sept, 9 in the court case involving the burglary of Adventure Outdoors, the downtown Liberty gun dealer. One juvenile suspect, who has not been publicly identified by the legal system because he is a minor, was back in court Monday after first appearing in Clay County Circuit Court this summer. The case was continued to Oct. 7 as the defendant’s attorney is preparing for another client’s trial.

Legion Auxiliary meets Sept. 18

The regular meeting of the Hutchinson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 96 is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. Also meeting that evening is the Hutchinson American Legion Post 96. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. Both meetings are at the Hutchinson VFW, 247 First Ave. S.E.

Registration open for Spooky Sprint

It’s hard to believe, but Halloween is just around the corner. With that comes activities including the popular Spooky Sprint 5K and Kids Dash. This year’s event is Saturday, Oct. 26. As in the past, the run will start and finish on First Avenue Southeast across from Library Square in downtown Hutchinson. Race day packet pick up is 8-9 a.m. with the Kids Dash at 9:15 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m.
