Tigers run over GSL in season opener

A good start, but still ‘a long way to go,’ according to coach Rostberg “We’re 1-0, but we have a long way to go.” That’s what Hutchinson football head coach Andy Rostberg said following Thursday’s 34-6 win over Glencoe-Silver Lake in the season opener in Glencoe. The Tigers rolled overtheir old Highway 22 nemesis using their trademark rushing attack, racking up 305 yards on the ground and 365 yards of total offense.

Ridgewater joins call to action ahead of 2024 elections

Ridgewater College has joined more than 625 college presidents and chancellors across the nation in committing to encourage and support student voter registration and participation in elections at every level through the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. To support full student voter participation of all eligible students, ALL IN and its Higher Education Presidents’ Council have launched a call to action for higher education presidents and chancellors to fully engage students in electoral participation.

Waning days of uprising still held danger for McLeod County settlers

20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF SEPT. 9, 2004 Nancy Piepenburg said she felt like she might get sick. Shirley Loch said the past few days had been filled with “lots of anxiety.” Meanwhile, riding a coach bus on Minnesota Highway 71 headed for Redwood Falls National Guard Armory where their mothers waited, Specialist Justin Piepenburg and Specialist Patrick Loch shared some of the same nervousness. But it was a good kind of nerves. After 11 months of preparation for and service in a security detail in Kosovo, 95 members of the 682nd Engineer Battalion — including 30 from CompanyA out of Litchfield — returned home Saturday. The 30 Litchfield Guard members were the first large-scale deployment from the local unit in 2003. They were attached to Company C and spent about five months training in the United States, then six months in Kosovo before returning to the States.
