The stucco exterior on the Litchfield Public Library needs to be replaced. The City Council has discussed repairing spots on the 25-year-old building for several years, but consultation with engineers and stucco contractors deemed that a full replacement would be the wiser long-term choice.
For more than a decade, Litchfield High School’s construction trades class has given students an opportunity to learn and use in real time building and home improvement skills. Students in the program have built a house on school property since 2010, when Gary Hein initiated the class.

20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF AUG. 12, 2004 Corporate discussions are underway between the two companies that own medical clinics in Litchfield about a potential merger.The possibility that the Litchfield Allina Medical Clinic might be purchased by Affiliated Community Medical Center based in Willmar was brought up in a discussion Monday at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital Board meeting. Board member Keith Carlson of Dassel said people are talking about it and want to know what’s happening. No official word has come from either of the two corporations, said Dr. Deb Peterson, chief of medical staff at MCMH and the Allina Clinic in Litchfield. Should the merger occur, “Allina would be divesting itself of us (the Litchfield Allina clinic),” Peterson said, with ownership of that clinic being assumed by ACMC.
Almost a year after conditions at Litchfield Cemetery raised concern and sparked debate among city officials, safety and aesthetics have improved. Thanks to a convergence of passionate support from a pair of City Council members and the financial commitment from the city — along with the expertise of an outside company — about 60 headstones have been repaired.
