Nearly a year into tax collections on Minnesota’s new lower-potency hemp industry shows that the sale of hemp edibles, beverages and other products is a $130 million business, at least. Accordingto numbers compiled by the state Department of Revenue, the 10% tax on cannabis product sales raised $1,217,450 in May from 1,873 tax paying businesses.

20 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF JULY 15, 2004 After closing his Juice Bar strip club by court order in January, a building on Highway 7 in Cosmos owned by Dale Peterson sat empty — until now. Peterson recently opened 21 Flavors, a non-alcoholic club targeted at the under age 21 crowd. The new business features a disc jockey with hip-hop and “R&B” music, a game room and “plenty of room for dancing,” Peterson said.

In the Meeker County Museum’s previous column, we set the stage for the G.A.R. Encampment held in Litchfield in 1889. This reunion of Civil War veterans was expected to be the biggest event the town had ever seen! The town was decorated from top to bottom, and food and lodging for thousands were prepared.
