Libraries are synonymous with books. That is a given. I was curious, so I did an informal social media poll and asked people what they thought of when they heard the word “library.” The responses were pleasantly surprising: peace, comfort, services, information and community were repeatedly mentioned. Though the fire was contained in one apartment, significant smoke damage made all three apartments uninhabitable, Magnuson said.

In ancient times, kings and noblemen built castles to protect themselves and their possessions from enemies. The enemy, however, devised unique ways of penetrating the defenses. They used catapults for launching rocks against or over the walls. Battering rams were used to break through the gates. Scaffolding was placed against castle walls so the enemy could breach them.
