Books open the world of sports to readers

Are you watching the Olympics? My husband and I have been drawn in, and we’ve been enjoying watching men’s and women’s gymnastics, swimming, diving and trap shooting, as well as some things that are unfamiliar to us, like handball. It’s inspiring to hear the athletes’ stories, especially all that Minnesota gymnast Suni Lee has overcome since the last summer Olympics.

Remember what’s vital in a representative democracy

If you’re at all like me, it probably feels like we’ve already been through at least three different presidential election years so far this year. And given the pace of events, it’s a good bet that between now and November, there’s more to come. But at the library, we like to offer teens opportunities to hang out, collaborate and create. We are excited by how many teens have attended our programs this summer so far, and we hope to see more in the upcoming weeks!

Board, commission stifling alternative energy in Meeker County

What occurred at the Meeker County Planning and Zoning public forum July 23, regarding solar and wind electricity generation, was a disappointment to say the least. Despite 13 of 15 speakers at the public hearing who requested more flexibility in the setbacks and small acreage placement of solar panels and wind generators, the Planning and Zoning Commission passed a new 1,320-foot setback.

Stuffed with fun at the library

What are you likely to find in every toy box, diaper bag, children’s play area, and childhood bedroom? Stuffed animals! Now more commonly referred to as “stuffies,” these classic toys are great companions for kids of all ages. Like I mentioned in my last column, Bruce the bear is a very popular stuffie that kids enjoy seeking out in the children’s section. Stuffies are a fun component at the Litchfield Public Library!
