Litchfield brought a large crew of competitors to the State Class A Track and Field Meet. And the Dragons brought home a treasure trove — including senior T.J.

They weren’t even supposed to be there. Almost weren’t.

Lincoln Dille spent a couple sleepless nights leading up to the Section 2A individual tennis tournament. One year after being the ninth seed and being bounced from the section singles tournament in the first round, the Litchfield sophomore found himself the favorite to win it all May 22-23 at Gustavus Adolphus College.

The competition changed, and the venue was different. But the Litchfield track and field team’s group of throwers was as dominant as ever during the Section 5A meet last week as three Dragons qualified for the State Class A Track and Field Meet.

Litchfield High School honored senior student athletes during the annual Activities Awards Night May 22, recognizing six seniors with special awards. FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Camryn Iverson was chosen from a group of five LHS three-sport athletes as Athlete of the Year for her ability to not only push herself to achieve success, but to raise the level of her teammates’ play.
Litchfield pulled a mild upset in picking up its second win and extending its season in the opening round of the Section 3AA softball tournament last week. Unfortunately, their success did not continue, as the Dragons lost their next two games and were eliminated from postseason play.
Litchfield’s postseason ended quickly. The 11th-seeded Dragons took an early lead but could not hold on as sixth-seeded Norwood Young America scored seven runs over the third and fourth innings to win 7-3 May 23 on its home field.
Litchfield sophomore Lincoln Dille will compete in the State Class A Tennis Tournament next week. Dille cruised to the Section 2A singles championship with four consecutive straight-sets victories.

Litchfield became road warriors earlier than expected. The Dragons’ final game of the regular season, against Eden Valley-Watkins, slated for Friday at Optimist Park, was postponed when rain made the field unplayable.
